Is it possible that losing a few brain cells is merely a lot like losing a few pounds?

I would gladly give up the memories of an unhappy, violent childhood, and every violent memory I have. I would give up every brain cell that held a memory of my in laws. I would want to keep every memory, happy or unhappy of my dogs.
