It seems when I shut down my computer, there is a connection made outbound before closing. This normal?

it seems the connection is made IP address ociated with AkamaiGHost servers. I know that many legit companies use Akamai servers. the bytes sent is 115 and received is 3500. All my antivirus/antispyware scans come up clean. Could this be a program like Java, Apple or ADOBE or Norton checking for updates before closing? Or maybe ociated with my ISP? I know that some of the bigname programs companies use Akamai servers. the IP address that the computer connects to changes but again are part of either road Runner or NTT ( I don't have Road Runner as an ISP, I have ATT)
