Do US Special Forces Soldiers pick their own weapons?

If you've ever read EndWar by Tom Clancy you'll know what I'm talking about. In the book it states that US Special Forces soldiers, or Marines, pick their own weapons. I did some research but didn't find anything good, so, do they?
